John Recherd was in the York Co Militia and enlisted under St Clair in York Pa in spring of 1791 and marched to Carlisle Pa, from there to Fort Jefferson; quartered there for weeks . Then was ordered to march for some time again stopped pitched tents for the night. The next morning was the most memorable most Bloody Battle of Pioneer American History.
The battle site which became Fort Recovery, Ohio. Nearly 700 of St Clair's soldiers died compared to 40 Indians. (This is more then three times the number that died At the Little Big Horn-Custer's Last Stand in 1876 ) This was because of poorly traind and equiped Soldiers and Militia. John Recherd was in the Military Service twelve months, he also served under Capt. Bradly, Col Butler, Anderson, Majors Butler and Gibson. Some of these fell in Battle!

On April 17, 1844 John Rechard Petitioned the court to grant him a pension for his service. On April 15 1846 this was granted to him.
